Privacy Policy

Damye (“we”, “us”) is a website that helps visitors discover authentic local restaurants in Korea. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Damye, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it to what the site actually needs.

01Information we collect

When you create an account

  • With email and password: your name, email address and password. Your password is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see or store it.
  • With Google: the name, email address and profile photo from your Google account.

Information you choose to add

  • Optional profile details: gender, age, nationality and a profile photo.
  • The restaurants you save to your favorites.
  • The date you agreed to these terms.

When you contact us

The contact form sends your name, email address, subject and message to our email inbox through FormSubmit, an email delivery service.

What we do not collect

We do not use advertising, sell personal information, or use tracking cookies. The quizzes run in your browser and your answers are not saved.

02How we use your information

  • To create and secure your account and let you log in.
  • To show your profile and keep your favorite restaurants.
  • To reply when you contact us.
  • To keep the site working and protect it from misuse.

03Google user data

If you choose Continue with Google, Damye uses Google Sign-In (through Google Firebase Authentication). Damye only requests your basic profile: the openid, email and profile permissions. We do not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, Calendar or any other Google data.

What we receive from Google

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your profile photo
  • A unique Google account ID, used only to recognize you when you log in

How we use it

  • To create your Damye account and log you in.
  • To fill in your Damye profile (name, email and photo), which you can edit or remove on your Profile page.
  • To link your saved favorite restaurants to your account.

We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

How we store and share it

Your Google profile information is stored in Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) and is visible only to you when you are logged in. We do not share Google user data with anyone else, except where required by law.

How to delete it

Delete your account on your Profile page to permanently remove your account, profile and favorites from Damye. You can also email us to request deletion; we will complete it within 30 days. You can remove Damye’s access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Damye’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

04How we share information

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We only share it:

  • with the service providers listed below, who process it for us to run the site;
  • if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

05Services we use

Damye relies on these services, which process data on our behalf or when you use their features:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) stores your account, profile and favorites.
  • Google Sign-In, if you choose to log in with Google.
  • Google Maps shows restaurant locations on restaurant pages.
  • Google Fonts provides the fonts used on the site.
  • GitHub Pages hosts the website.
  • FormSubmit delivers contact form messages to our inbox.

These companies may receive technical information such as your IP address and browser type when your browser connects to them. Their own privacy policies apply to that information. Some of them may process data on servers outside Korea.

06Browser storage

Firebase keeps you logged in by storing a sign-in token in your browser. Damye also stores a small note of whether you are signed in so the menu shows the right link. You can clear these at any time in your browser settings, which logs you out.

07How long we keep it

We keep your account information until you delete your account. Contact form messages stay in our email inbox for as long as needed to respond and keep a record of the conversation.

08Your choices and rights

  • See and edit your details at any time on your Profile page.
  • Delete your account on your Profile page. This permanently removes your account, profile and favorites.
  • Ask us to access, correct or delete your information, or to stop processing it, by emailing us. We will reply within a reasonable time.

09Children

Damye is not intended for children under 14. If you are under 14, please do not create an account. If we learn that we hold a child’s information without a guardian’s consent, we will delete it.

10Security

Accounts are protected by Firebase Authentication, and our database rules only allow each person to read and change their own profile. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use elsewhere.

11Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
